We encounter a new foe here - Ratmen. They are one of the weaker foes in the game, based on past experience. But who knows, maybe they match up particularly well with Nature Mages ...
The next new monster was a lot tougher - Limos, Demons that steal health. They are tough at this level in the game. They were accompanied by fire breathing dogs who also deal out a bunch of damage.
After having to fall back against the Limos, we just flat overwhelm the creature who murdered the husband of the grieving widow. Weird, we seem to maul the purple (denotes higher level, I believe) creatures but sometimes struggle with the less powerful ones.
