I decided that I wanted to start working on a new alt to help collect some of the crappy items on Normal that I don't have to finish off artifacts. Plus take advantage of some of the items I've left behind, so I started a War guy - first time I've played this build. I've been on the wrong side of Battle Standard enough times, so I'm looking forward to using it against my foes. I believe this is my fifth alt, although it is only my second since getting the expansion pack.
For what it is worth, my "pets" build just ripped apart the Telkines - they were not much of a challenge compared to some of the other bosses out there. I don't believe they were performing at the level you described, either. So that may not be your first big test after all ...
