2034 Rookie Draft

After hitting most of our immediate need areas in free agency, we have liberty to dabble wherever we need to in the draft, I think. A playable RB would be nice, but I’m not wowed by anyone I see in this draft ahead of time. Perhaps an addition to the OL? Take a stab at a QB? Well, we have to land at least one QB just to get the roster legal, so that will come at some point, we know.

We are on the clock, with one combine-skipping CB my scout liked, and one mixed-bag WR appearing like the best overall players in the draft for us.

I’m really surprised when an OT, a guy who I was even tossing around as a possibility in rouund one, is still there a few picks before us in round two – so I make a modest trade to deal up a few slots to secure him in round two. I give up my 4th, but pick up their 6th and 7th rounders in the deal, and lock up a pretty solid-looking affinity lineman.

Code:
Pick Pos Name Grd Adj 4TBAJP Dev O/U Scout Comments 1.17 CB Courtney Booker 5.9 6.1 –skip- 53% VU 44/64 Best guy available, scout pick 2.16 LT Raymond Money 5.6 6.2 ! -++ 31% VU 31/68 Aff, good base skills, to LG? 3.15 FS Spencer Upshaw 5.0 4.7 ! +-+ 28% UR 18/47 Value pick need pos, 4.43 dash 5.13 SLB Antoine O’Neal 5.0 4.8 !- ++ 60% HTR 12/21 Slot unclear, but potential there 6.17 QB Jake Caballero 4.5 5.1 !+ + 28% NA 11/38 4.44 dash, decent arm, worth risk 6.20 DE Tracy Henry 3.5 3.8 +--+ 43% VU 13/40 Scout loves him, affinity, sure 7.16 RB Kenneth Daughtry 4.2 4.4 + - -+ 43% UR 16/26 Scout/aff pick, maybe dumb move 7.19 RB Geoff Curson 4.3 4.6 + ! 34% VO 23/39 Best dash and agil, 4.51 and 6.98

Nothing shocking down the line – I defer to my scout for several picks later in the draft, and fall once again for my usual swoon over a super-fast QB. We’ll see if anyone is worth much from those later picks.

I’m very optimistic about the top two picks, though.
