2040 Initial Preseason

Planning a more direct, abbreviated approach here…

Retirements: S Ben Terry, LB Chris Mathews (Terry has a case for the HOF)

We have 35 players signed, but that includes three guys on exploded contracts (a vestige of my old rules) who most likely need to be released, though I may try to renegotiate one of them.

Initial AP Plan:

12 – Stay 5% below the salary cap
10 – Implement custom gameplans at start of season
3 – Set injury rate at 150
3 – Use up to 20 rookie interviews
2 – Each player on roster for week 1 occupying 5-10% of cap (LT Matthew Collier)
2 – Each player on roster for week 1 occupying 5-10% of cap (QB Jose Swartz)
2 – Each player on roster for week 1 occupying 5-10% of cap (DE Darren Newman)
2 – Each player on roster for week 1 occupying 5-10% of cap (WR Rex Franklin)
2 – Each player on roster for week 1 occupying 5-10% of cap (LG Mickey Colombo)
--
38 AP

That leaves roughly 10 AP each for free agency and the draft, and a little fluff factor to hold onto for renegotiations or roster fill-ins. Roughly the same as last season. I can do a fairly harmless capout with guys like G Colombo and WR Franklin to squeeze them down below the 5% mark for this year, if that ends up looking like it’s important.

1 – Send former 4th or 5th round pick or undrafted rookie to European league (S JT Werenka)
2 – Sign RFA player on an unrestricted new contract (C Mack Manahan, 3yr $10.5m)
0 – Sign RFA player to his requested one year contract (LT Patrick Quinn)
0 – Sign RFA player to his requested one year contract (SLB Rondell Moore)

And on to open free agency we go…
