Manhattan (1-2) at Ohio(4-1)

Manhattan is in the MAAC. They're rated 72 OVR and are a team we should beat. They do have the same strong rebounding rating that we do but are far inferior everywhere else as a team.

We're missing two players for this game. Starting C Watson and backup SG Lamkin. I don't want to remove the redshirt that I put on Garcia so I'm going to just play Flowers a lot more and hope that Massey/Cooper/Flowers will work in the backcourt.

Scouting

Their big strength is a 7'2” freshman center Jibrahn Capel. Not great on the boards or in the post, but he has a solid close range rating of 87, and he's 7'2” which is the main thing. PG Milton Vanttaja is a solid shooter (77 from 3) and SG Stevie Allison is a decent all around shooter(80 close/71 med/73 3).

They are weak at the 3 so maybe House won't struggle to defend so much.

They're in a 2-3 zone and we're getting tons of open jumpers. Massey has 2 3's, Cooper 1. We also have 3 offensive boards.

They've hit 2 3's with one of their backups, but House has gotten to the hoop and drawn two fouls on Capel, their 7'2” monster. He's sitting.

Their starting SG, Allison, has hit 2 quick 3s and I call a timeout to bitch out my team.

Giving up too many 3's remains a theme, even in tight man to man defenses. Their SG , Allison, has 14 points including 2-2 from 3(6-8 total... that's gotta stop). Their backup, Elliot, is 2-3 from 3 for 8 points. As a team they are 6-11 from 3 and 16-30 overall.

Massey is playing well, 8 points/5 boards from the guard spot. We hae 3 guys with 6, and House has 5, but he should have more. Every time he drives he draws a foul, he's wreaking havoc on their interior defense. But, he's 3-7 from the line. As a team, we are 4-11 from the line. FOUR FOR ELEVEN. Completely unacceptable.

We've drawn 3 fouls this half, including one on a 3 point attempt. We're 2-7 from the line this half. Meanwhile, they are 2-3 from 3 to extend the lead to 8.

We were down 52-41 just a minute ago. Delic with a reach for his 3rd foul of the game, he sits. We are now 7-20 total from the line.

We've drawn 7 fouls on them this half, which will help if we can make some free throws. We've gotten the lead down to 4 but they had a 4 point possession(3 point play chance/missed Ft/putback) to make it 8 again, and we're working on that deficit now.

Once again we're falling far behind a team that we should beat 9 times out of 10. We have 7 fouls now and they're in the bonus.

We draw foul #4 on Capel, he's been totally neutralized today. Cooper makes 1 of 2 to make it a 10 point game(was 11)

Man what the hell. They score the next 6 in a row and we are just screwed.

Manhattan 89
Ohio 74

They shoot 14-26 from 3. I shoot 13-28 from the free throw line. No way to win like that.

Their two starting guards, who I had defended in tight man to man defense all game, were 8-14 from 3 and scored 43 points. Massey and Cooper were defending them for the most part. My two best man to man defenders. Their awareness is low so perhaps that's it? I really don't know. The 3-2 zone in this game is god awful, and I can't stop anyone in man to man defense, I must be doing something wrong at this point as we're 4-2, 4-0 in simmed games and 0-2 against teams rated much worse than us. The game that froze on me against Rider they were making 3's on us like crazy, but in the simmed game we win by 17 without trying. Ah well. I'll figure it out eventually!

Massey: 18 points/7 boards
Cooper: 21 points
House: 10 points/4 boards
Delic: 2 points/5 boards
Sessoms: 8 points/10 boards

Flowers 6 points
Dahi 6 points

I have noticed that I have gotten away from my post game too much. Delic only took 2 shots today, and one was a successful hook shot in the post as part of my normal offense. I need to work on that a lot more as I have a team now with a number of decent big men and no go to lights out shooter.
