#3 Pittsburgh (4-0) at Florida State (3-2)

TEAM: FSU|PIT
OVR: 88|91
OFF: 87|91
DEF: 89|89
SHT: 88|92
REB: 92|87
COA: 86|98

Pitt has played 4 cupcakes so far and crushed them all, most recently an 87-37 win over Central Connecticut State. Jamie Dixon has turned into one of the best coaches in the nation and is nearing his 400th win.

Scouting

PG Tahric Burrowes – JR – 82 OVR – 95 speed/85 quickness. 84 vertical/70 str, both very good. 86 defense, 89 hands/82 passing. Both solid but not special really. 84 close/75 med/84 3. 84 off the dribble. They have some seriously good shooters. Just 8 ppg so far.

SG Isaac Wingate – SR – 86 OVR – 89 speed/92 quickness. Also 80 vertical/83 hustle(B-/B). 90 close/86 med/89 3/82 off the dribble. 85 defense, also A- handling. 15.3 ppg so far this year, a huge threat, BUT he has a broken finger which I have felt in the past has hurt my guys' shooting abilities. So hopefully he will be limited by his day to day injury.

SF Alfred Flowers – SR – 88 OVR – 6'7” SF – great speed and elite quickness... 89 spd/95 quickness (A+). 84 defense/77 steals. 83 handling. 83 close/83 me/69 3/75 off the dribble/93 in traffic. Flowers is a big SF with true guard level skills and abilities. 78 strength... as strong as any of our big men. He has outstanding post skills and rebounding for a SF as well. 85 offensive awareness/75 defensive awareness. A truly complete player. 14 ppg/8 rpg so far. Projected lottery pick.

PF Peter Curry – SR – 79 OVR – 6'5”, natural SF – 81 orb/74 drb. 74 post off/73 post def. 87 close/96 in traffic. He has a good midrange shot as well and good speed.

C Bobby Bragg – SR – 82 OVR – A giant. 7'2, natural PF. 80 orb/81 drb. 84 post off/87 post def. 85 block shot rating. 85 close/91 in traffic. 18.3 ppg/7 rpg. Well... our inside game is in trouble.

Backup SG Lawrence Dickerson is rated 84 OVR and is an elite shooter and scorer as well, 12 points/game.

Backup PG Landon Songondo is rated 81 OVR and has 90 speed, 89 quickness and 82 3 point shooting... they have so many threats.

Curry being a 6'5” SF lining up at power forward might help us some, but that's really their only weak spot. They've got a large 68-36 unity edge too.

Forte and Moye each have a 3, and each have 5 points. Our offense is running efficiently, and we're cleaning the glass when Pitt misses, good start. McCants has 2 blocks too.

Backups are in a bit earlier than normal. Forte is tired from being such a focus, Moye couldn't go much longer, and McCants has two fouls. Forte hit a 2nd 3, he has 8, Moye 6.

Great play by the backups, a number of offensive rebounds highlighting our ability to hold on to the lead. Starters are back in now.

Timeout Pitt. They had a small lineup out there, with Flowers as their center. This allowed them to run around and get some open 3's, but it let us get inside with ease. McCants with 3 good looks for 6 points. Sneed missed his only shot. They go bigger after the TO.

HALF

Great end to the half. We shoot 55% and hold Pitt to under 50%. They get 8 from their superstar SF Flowers, and 7 points/5 boards from their quality big man, Bragg. They're 1-8 from 3. We need them to stay cold in the 2nd half.

Forte and Moye lead us with 11, Forte 3-3 from 3, Moye 2-2. As a team we're 5-10, as Day missed a few open 3's for the backups. McCants with 6, Barrett with 5. That adds up to 33, that's the entirity of our scoring.

McCants gets his 3rd foul, I'll keep him in and just go deeper into the bench if he picks up #4.

They start the half on a 6-0 run. We're missing shots that went in all first half, ugh.

Well then, 8 in a row for FSU! Moye gets out on the break 4 straight possessions, all after missed jumpers by Pitt. He scores 6 and hits Ozier for 2. Pitt timeout.

Moye hits a 3, he has 22 and is carrying us this half. Pitt with another timeout. Two 6th man boosts and all these timeouts allow us to ride our starters awhile longer.

We're starting to tire and they're on a run. Seems a good time to get a timeout and get the backups in. As good as the starters were in the first half... well the backups are 2/9 from the floor.

Bragg, their big man, has 18 now, he has 2 3 point play chances in a row, but missed the FT last time. Slater has 3 fouls now, that's 7 fouls between the two guys assigned to guard Bragg. I get a timeout to emphasize defense, maybe my increases in discipline will make that actually matter?

They hit 3's on two straight possessions. I get another timeout and get the starters back in.

They miss a couple, we turn it over once and miss a couple. Moye just had a 3 rim out on him. Their ball.

They shoot a midrange jumper that misses, Bragg with the board and putback... 24. Guy is a monster inside.

Moye is a monster too. We go into the post to Sneed who makes a good crosscourt pass to an open Moye, his 3 is good, he has 27 now I think.

They go where else but in to Bragg. 26 for him, what a slugfest down the stretch, this is great.

Wow! Moye with a tough 3 off the dribble, its no good, but McCants gets the board, he goes back up strong(I considered passing it out and holding the ball, but he was right at the rim), lays the ball in with his left hand, and is fouled by Bragg!!! The free throw is no good, but Ozier gets the board!! Here's that ethical dilemma again... run an offense or hold it til the end? I think with a 7 second difference, knowing I'm going to have to start my offense with 20-25 seconds left anyway to get a reasonable shot(or hold it til the end and end up with a poor contested one), I'll hold it a bit.

Sneed has a SF on him, I feed him inside, the SF goes for the steal, Sneed has an open layin from just a foot or two away, four point lead!!

Great defense from Forte, they struggle getting it up over half court. They end up taking a bad shot (Bragg from about 18 feet out, just a 2 from the 7 footer). It's no good, Sneed boards with about 8 seconds left. They'd only committed 4 fouls all half and I ran the clock out before they got up to 7.

What an outstanding win. Quoted from the scouting report, for once I was dead on about what I saw:

“15.3 ppg so far this year, a huge threat, BUT he has a broken finger which I have felt in the past has hurt my guys' shooting abilities. So hopefully he will be limited by his day to day injury.”

That was about their SG, Wingate, an 89 rated 3 point shooter. He went 0-6 from 3 today, at least 3 of those nearly wide open as I was controlling Moye a lot(since he scored so often) and trying to double down in the post some.

They get a massive game from their center, Bragg. He scores 26 and has 9 boards, 9-14 from the field, 8-11 at the line. But I'll note he let McCants get the offensive board that led to the game winning shot with 40 seconds left. their stud SF, Flowers, only scored 10. He had 5 boards and 5 assists as well in 35 minutes of play. The big stat really was that this team that had 5 guys rated 80+ from 3 shot 4-17 from 3 point range. If Wingate is fully healthy I bet we lose.

Forte: 11 points
Moye: 27 points (9-14 FG/4-7 3/5-6 FT)
Ozier: 2 points
Sneed: 6 points/4 boards/3 assists
McCants: 10 points/9 boards

Barrett: 4 points
Sanders: 4 points/6 boards

McCants was 5-6 inside, I never had him try to score over Bragg except that final shot, but I did feed him a few times with smaller people on him and he did very well. Sneed ended up 3-6 after going 0-3 on his first 3 shots and looking rather terrible.

Moye just came up so big, great game for him against a very very good team.
