During Martial Law, editors of the two pro-union socialist newspapers in the state were arrested, jailed, and property seized, ending their printing and distribution. Editor Thompson sues Governor Hatfield for the violation of his Freedom of the Press, and the WV Supreme Court sends a writ of prohibition to the Cabell County Court forbidding them from from even hearing Thompson’s case.
