On March 20, 1920 a Commission established by Woodrow Wilson to settle mining strike agreed to a 34% increase in pay for miners and 20% increase in pay for day men. After the pay cut earlier in the year, the mines in Southern WV, still ununionized, chose not to increase pay by the amount recommended by Wilson’s commission.
