#11 Florida State (2-0) at Iowa (5-1)

TEAM: FSU|IOWA
OVR: 90|83
OFF: 89|82
DEF: 89|84
SHT: 90|83
REB: 93|86
COA: 88|87

Iowa hasn't made the big dance since 2015, not one of the better big 10 programs these days. They've played no one so far, except for a loss against Mississippi State in their last game.

Scouting

PG Jeffrey Hampton – SR – 83 OVR – 96 speed/86 quickness. 89 defense/80 steals. 87 hands/80 passing. 81 close/71 med/80 3/81 off the dribble. Good awareness, great hustle(94/A). A solid PG, leading the team with 16.3 ppg so far. 5 assists/game too.

SG Demon Abbot – SR – 77 OVR – 86 speed/91 quickness. 85 def/86 steals, a solid defender. 83 close/69 med/77 3/75 off the dribble/78 in traffic. Good leaper and dunker, he's a 6'6” guard. Speed and inside game seem to be his strength, and of course he will make open 3's. 8.7 ppg so far.

SF Timmy Nardi – SR – 71 OVR – 6'7” SF – 80 speed/75 quickness. 72 defense(low even for a SF, C-). 85 close/87 in traffic. 6.3 ppg so far.

PF Moulaye Dixon – JR – 77 OVR – 6'8” natural PF – 91 orb but only 79 drb. 78 post off/73 post def. 85 close/85 in traffic. Decent strength, 70/B. Dixon is averaging 12 ppg and 5.8 boards so far this season.

C Duncan Schaen – FR – 76 OVR – 6'7” natural PF – 79 orb/77 drb. 79 post off/73 post def. 91 close/81 in traffic. 67 str, a little low for a center. Just 6 ppg/5 rpg so far.

They have a couple 72 rated backups but these are 5 of their top 7 players. Other than Hampton they really don't have anyone that should be able to play with us for 40 minutes. Abbot and Dixon are ok though and on the road we'll see, but it would seem we should be way too much for them.

Iowa with a small 53-47 unity lead. How nice is it to see our team unity up near 50 in November after the last two years.

Great offense so far. Everyone but Alloway has scored, Forte has 8, including 2 open 3's. They got their first 5 points from SG Abbot, then I stuck Barrett on him and they have only scored 2 total since, on a tipin. Backups are in.

4 from Ozier, Mayer hits the first shot I ever take with him in a real game, an open 3. Timeout Iowa.

Heh, collapse there by the backups, Mayer has the ball stripped, layup Iowa, Sanders with a bad pass, layup Iowa. McClurkin bad pass, layup iowa. Timeout Florida State!

I get a timeout to get the starters back out. Their SG, Abbot, has 14 now, he went nuts the second he came back in. Hopefully Barrett shuts him down again. Ozier with a great run there, 8 points, 6 in transition. Mayer with the other 5, we only tried to get into the post twice and turned it over both times. Alloway has 2 fouls for the starters, BTW. Ozier will get more PT if Alloway picks up a 3rd.

Alloway scores 4 straight and they get a timeout. This team is going to have so many ways to score, I know this is a slightly inferior opponent but this might be the most versatile group of scorers I've ever had, with a defensive stopper too...

They go to a high pressure half court defense and we struggle against it a bit, putting up a few bad shots and they score pretty much every time down for a stretch. Abbot has 17 now heh. I get a timeout to settle down and hopefully make sure we take the lead into the locker room.

Well we didn't play well at all the final 6 minutes of the half or so. Their SG Abbot has an instant release, which is just impossible to defend unless I'm controlling the guy on him, the AI defense just sags too much off the ball, so every single shot he gets is open. Barrett prevented him from driving and creating his own shot which did help a ton.

They are 16-28, 2-7 from 3, we are 13-22, 3-3 from 3. We've also taken 10 free throws(and made them all), just 3-4 from Iowa. After their 17 from Abbot there is nothing worth noting.

Forte leads our starters with 8, Ozier also put up 8 off the bench. Alloway and Sneed have 6 each. I did not go to my big men often, understandable when I'm doing well in transition, but too many half court possessions ended with alloway or forte instead of a feed into the post.

They take advantage of a couple very impressive defensive stops and take the lead.

We get it going and lead by 1 when we call a timeout to get the backups in. Forte hit a 3, Barrett and Alloway get transition baskets and Sneed twice in transition. Forte and Sneed are in double figures now.

Timeout Iowa, I'm still thrilled with the offense but wish we had held on to the larger lead we had earlier. Ozier and Mayer both having great games off the bench, and Sanders has picked up 4 points in this stretch as well.

They had Abbot sitting and a couple other starters, a quick 5 gives them the lead after their timeout. I've only got 2 left so I'm not calling one here, but the starters will be back in fairly soon.

Barret with a big jam in transition and we take the lead back for now.

We're going back and forth, Iowa with a timeout to get all their starters back in. Forte with our last 5, he has 16 now.

Big stretch, we get 3 straight buckets as they turn it over once and miss two shots, including an open look from Abbot.

They just missed what looked like it would be an easy bucket in transition... we've got the ball now with a fresh shot clock.

McCants kicks it out to Forte for an open jumper.

They turn it over on their next trip and its over.

I'd prefer to have blown them out but we get a solid win in a hostile environment early in the season, I'll take that. Abbot with 24 for them, PF Dixon with 10, PG Hampton with 9, that's their 3 talented players.

Forte: 18 points
Alloway: 12 points
Barrett: 9 points
Sneed: 14 points/2 boards
McCants: 5 points/6 boards

Ozier: 10 points
Mayer: 9 points

I'm real happy with that sort of point distribution too... Alloway and Barrett were both strong attacking the basket, Sneed does well down low and Forte scores when we need him to, actually going 4-4 from 3 and 7-9 from the floor, great game for him. Mayer goes 3-5, 1-1 from 3 and 2-2 at the line. Millar, the other new guy out there, is 0-2 and put up two ugly shots, just 1 board for his stat line.
