Another game where the writeup makes the post too long:

January 8, 2022

#7 Florida State (12-1, 1-0 ACC) at #5 North Carolina (16-1, 1-0 ACC)

TEAM: FSU|UNC
OVR: 91|93
OFF: 90|92
DEF: 90|95
SHT: 91|95
REB: 94|96
COA: 88|91

On paper, North Carolina is the best team in the ACC. This is our only chance during the regular season to show otherwise, up in Chapel Hill. Despite losing two lottery picks to the NBA, they still have 4 players rated higher than anyone on the Florida State roster and seem very imposing.

Their only loss is to a 12-2 LaSalle team. They beat #24 Baylor by 19, beat Pitt(a top 5 team last year, not as good this year), and their early ACC game was a win over Boston College.

Scouting

PG Holland Freedman – SR – 86 OVR – 90 speed/91 quickness. 89 defense/80 steals. 88 hands/85 passing. 89 close/82 med/87 3/84 offthe dribble... can score as well as anyone. 11.3 ppg/3.6 apg so far this year.

SG Phil Atangana – JR – 90 OVR – 92 speed/85 quickness. 85 defense/92 steals. 91 close/77 med/76 3/90 off the dribble/81 in traffic. 85 defensive awareness, outstanding there. B vert/A- str/B+ hustle, a crazy good athlete. 12.5 ppg/7 rpg so far this year. Atangana is 6'7 and is as good a rebounder as most post men.

SF Eddie Esterkamp – SR – 88 OVR – 90 speed/89 quickness. 89 defense/78 steals. 90 close/85 med/86 3/89 in traffic. Esterkamp has been relegated to the bench behind Atangana and Haigler the last couple seasons. Also 6'7”, also a natural SG, not SF. 18.1 ppg this year so far.

PF Rene Reid – SR – 87 OVR – 6'6” SF – 79 orb/80 drb. 70 post off/74 post def. He's an elite level SF though his post skills aren't great. 89 speed/85 quickness. 90 close/78 med/85 3/81 off the dribble/88 in traffic. 10.8 ppg, a tough challenge for Sneed today.

C Shangari Andres – FR – 77 OVR – A 6'7” nautral PF – 80 orb/83 drb. 76 post off/75 post def. 85 close/82 in traffic. 75 strength is pretty good. 7.3 ppg/4.2 apg so far this year.

Backup SG Winston Appleby is rated 84 overall and averages 7 ppg off the bench. Backup PG Dennard Cannon is rated 83 OVR and averages 6 points/game.

The only other big man on the roster is a 74 rated freshman PF. We have an edge inside, but finding a way to use it against their 3-2 zone may be tough. They collapse pretty fast IIRC, forcing a lot of kickouts.

UNC is more talented but this is not an impossible challenge like it was last year.
