#10 Georgia Tech (14-5, 2-1 ACC) at #12 Florida State (12-3, 1-2 ACC)

TEAM: FSU|GT
OVR: 91|93
OFF: 90|94
DEF: 90|91
SHT: 91|97
REB: 94|96
COA: 88|96

It may be unfair to the Yellow Jackets for me to continue to refer to UNC as the best team I'm going to play all year as if there's no question about it. Tech was a tournament team last year and returns all 5 starters, and just look at those roster ratings, 97 shooting!

Except.. they just lost to Miami by 20 at home. Maybe this is a hard team to figure out.

Scouting

PG Dainmon Horner – SR – 82 OVR – 95 speed/86 quickness. 83 defense/87 steals. 85 hands/87 passing. 82 close/76 med/80 3/78 off the dribble/83 in traffic. 9.2 ppg/4.3 apg.

SG Femi Shavies – SO – 84 OVR – Shavies has a fully matured shooting tendency chart, a surprise for a soph. 87 speed/86 quickness. 80 defense/8 steals. 89 close/78 med/84 3/81 off the dribble. He's going to shoot any time he's open. 17.6 ppg so far this year.

SF Jibran Grizzard – JR – 89 OVR – 6'7” SF – 87 speed/80 quickness – 84 defense/81 steals. 92 close/84 med/78 3/82 off the dribble/92 in traffic. A great ball handler, very good awareness. Somehow he only averages 6.3 per game this year so far.

PF Aly Richards – JR – 88 OVR – 6'8” PF, an elite big man. 88 orb/88 drb. 87 post off/82 post def. 99 close/93 in traffic. Yup, 99. A+. 10.9 ppg/4.9 rpg. Again I dunno how he scores just 11/game.

C Immanuel Bing – JR – 84 OVR – 6'10” PF – 85 orb/85 drb. 84 post off/78 post def. 95 close/89 in traffic. 81 strength, great awareness and athleticism. 9.2 ppg/5.9 rpg.

Backup guard Justin Covington is rated 83 OVR and scores 8.6 ppg. A number of other backups score 5 or so a game. The worst player on their roster is rated 77 OVR. 8 players are 80+. This is a complete team, and will give UNC a hell of a matchup. They only play once, in mid February.

Hopefully we can compete with them at a high level at home. If we're going to lose games like BC on the road, lets hold serve at home no matter who we play.

No coach on the floor before confidence boosts, but the whole “all 5 starters returning” for tech gives them a 70-59 unity edge.

Heh crazy start. We open up 8-2 but their 3 point shooting keeps them in it, it seems like we're defending harder, scoring more often, and are all over the court, but they just rain 3's every so often to keep it close. They had a lead for a bit

Barrett has 7, Sneed has 6, though he's only 2-5 inside, two of those misses in transition on the secondary break where I thought he was going to dunk. Richards has him owned pretty good in the paint. They have 7 from Shavies and 5 from backup guard Covington.

Backups are in.

We slow things down as their talent clearly outclasses the backups. Sanders scores 4 and Millar scores 2. Both team's starters are back in now.

Barrett is having a lot of success driving by people both in half court and transition, he's our first man to 10 points. Sneed has a dunk going off a screen and has 8.

The last 6 minutes or so are basically us going up 4, them cutting it to 2, trading baskets and misses back and forth. Tech is shooting 13-31, just 2-8 from 3. we're shooting better, 13-26, 0-3 from 3 and we have 8 free throws(just 4 for them). We have a small edge on the boards and a small turnover disadvantage.

Shavies leads them with 9, about half of his average. Richards 6, Horner 6. SF Grizzard is struggling, 1-5 for just 2 points. Barrett leads us with 14, great half for him. Sneed has 8 though its on 3-8 shooting. Sanders has 4 and a few others have 2. Alloway is only 1-2, I haven't been taking many 3's and Barrett has been the man to get to the rim today.

Forte, Mayer have two fouls each. No other foul trouble on either side.

Georgia Tech opens on an 8-0 run, we cannot get anything to fall and they are scoring inside with great efficiency.

Alloway drives by his man and gets us on the board in the 2nd half.

Backups are in. Its been a 2-4 point game in Tech's favor the last few minutes. I don't think we have stopped them on any of their last 4 or 5 possessions. But we've kept up. It looks like Richards is taking over for them, he's up to 13. Alloway has 6 for us now and started to get going a little.

Still trading buckets but Ozier got a 3 point play as he was fouled going up for a dunk. Timeout Tech. Shavies 18/Richards 13 for them.

Ozier drives and draws foul #3 on Richards. Potentially a key foul there.

Ozier has 7 for us in this run now and we lead by 1! Great stretch for him, a very rare thing for me to say heh.

They hit a 3, we turn it over and commit a foul. Time for the starters to get back in there. Barrett switches over to Shavies. Grizzard is crazy talented but they seem to ignore him.

Ugh... a 3 and a transition layup and a 2 point game quickly becomes 7. I get a timeout.

I get another timeout mostly out of desparation because we are blowing this in a colossal way.

Barrett with 4 straight and he is up to 22 now, lead down to 7. Barrett is 2 away from a career high.

McCants picks up a loose ball near the top of the key and goes the length of the floor himself for a dunk. Down to 5.

Ball game. Layup from Shavies, Forte misses a 3, 3 pointer from Shavies.

We cannot get it closer than 7.

#10 Georgia Tech75
#12 Florida State 66

Shavies scores 23 for them, Richards 17, Horner 11. Shavies is 10-14 on the day(3-6 from 3) and Richards 7-11.

Forte: 2 points
Alloway: 13 points
Barrett: 22 points
Sneed: 8 points/5 boards
McCants: 6 points/5 boards

Ozier: 7 points
Sanders: 6 points

This is why we needed to beat Boston College. Now we're 1-3 in conference play.
