Boston College (13-10, 5-8 ACC) at #15 Florida State (18-6, 7-5 ACC)

TEAM: FSU|BC
OVR: 91|88
OFF: 90|88
DEF: 90|87
SHT: 91|91
REB: 94|85
COA: 88|92

It was less than a month ago that we lost on the road to Boston College, starting a bad slide that took us the rest of the month to recover from. With the big downswing and recent huge recovery, it seems like the BC game was way longer ago than that.

This is a revenge game, pure and simple. They opened the last game on a 7-0 run and led all 40 minutes, the closest we ever got it was 6. This was one of those games where I ended up annoyed that the worst player on the floor(SF hilton Hart) scored 27 points and dominated everyone all game. Hopefully we can prevent that today. Alloway put up a career high in the first meeting, 32 points, but had no help at all.

Scouting

PG Regis Clarke – JR – 81 OVR – a natural PG – 89 speed/83 quickness. 84 defense/79 steals. 88 close/74 med/77 3/79 off the dribble. A good scorer who becomes great if he can get near the rim. He's only 6'0” though so that's going to be tough hopefully. 7.4 ppg.

SG Duane Bowden – SO – 80 OVR – 93 speed/81 quickness, a natural PG. 86 defense/85 steals. 81 close/76 med/81 3/78 off the dribble. Not bad at all but not much else to go with it. Average leaping/hustle, average awareness, and he's only 5'11”. 8.8 ppg.

SF Hilton Hart – JR – 77 OVR – A 6'7” natural SF – 83 speed/75 quickness. 77 defense. 85 close/72 med/66 3/81 in traffic. With his quickness and defense, Barrett should have a pretty big edge over him if he can get one on one on the wing. 2.8 ppg, not a huge threat on either end. This means he's going to score 20 of course.

PF Izik Dawson – JR – 82 OVR – 77 orb/83 drb. 72 post off/74 post def. 91 close/89 in trafic. 72 str is good but not great. Very good awareness, 82 on defense/74 offense. Not quite coach on the floor but good. 6'9” PF – 10.8 ppg/6.0 rpg. We have an edge here against his poor post ratings. He is a good shot blocker though(75/B).

C Sidiki Sarchet – JR – 81 OVR – 6'8” natural PF. 86 orb/83 drb. 79 post off/75 post def. 91 close/87 in traffic. 65 str, low for a big man. He can step out and shoot the 3, 76 3 point rating. 9.8 ppg/5.8 rpg

Big news here is that 87 rated PG Andy Garner, by far BC's higest rated player, has a strained achilles and is OUT for the game. Clarke moves to PG and Bowden starts at SG in his place.

We call an early timeout to avoid a held ball situation. Good start today though, no falling behind 7-0 like the first meeting. Also, Hart missed his first 3, good sign for us.

Sanders in for McCants, the other starters are good for another minute or more.

A little longer than I intended to keep the starters in for, but without the clock stopping we end up having to call a timeout to get the backups in. Forte leads us with 5, balanced scoring for the most part. Sarchet has 7 for them including a 3, he's got a good 3 point shot for a big man.

We've drawn 7 fouls now, shooting fTs the rest of the half. Only a backup guard has 2 for htem so far.

The backups build a 7 point lead and then blow it, allowing BC to come tie it back up. Mayer and Sanders are the only backups able to score that time around. I get my 3rd timeout to get the starters back in.

We're on a 7-0 run and looking pretty good. We've drawn 11 fouls on the half now and a couple of their guys are sitting with 2, Sarchet, their leading scorer being most noteworthy.

HALF

They hit a 3 and we cannot score in the final 2 ½ minutes. Its mainly our success attacking the rim and getting fouls that is giving us our lead. Defense is good too, we're shooting only 40% from the field, BC just 35%.

They're led by SG Bowden with 9, all 3 pointers, all wide open off a screen or just with sloppy defense really. Sarchet has 7. McCants leads us with 8, Sneed 6. Sanders also has 6. In our last meeting with these guys, Sneed had 2 and McCants 6 the entire game,so its real nice to see our big men more involved.

Sarchet is their only starter with 2 fouls, two backups also have 2. Every other starter has 1.

Sneed has 12 now and seems to be heating up for us. He's our only player in double figures, Alloway is 1-5 and Barrett just 1-1, we have no transition game against these guys today, they are doing an outstanding job getting back, its all half court. Sarchet 13, Bowden 11 for them.

Backups are in. Sneed and McCants both have double doubles already, but we're struggling to score in the half court set often enough with our guards struggling to score.

We are struggling mightily to score, but luckily so are they We have baskets from Ozier and Sanders, but Sanders has missed a couple good looks as well, and Mayer misses a wide open 3. I'm thrilled to still have a 5 point lead.

Hah, seconds after unpausing after talking about how much we're struggling, McClurkin hits an open 3 from the right corner. Two trips later Mayer drains a 3 and we lead by 11. Timeout BC. Starters back in soon.

We each score on our first two trips, 59-50 lead, our ball, McCants misses a shot on our end, Hart hits a 3 on their end and its a 6 point game. McCants and Sneed each have a bucket, Alloway and Forte both have missed open looks and are just having godawful days.

We're quite lucky to be up 6 still, Alloway with a turnover, they miss a wide open 3. Forte misses a 3 on our end, they miss a... mildly contested(at best) 3. Our ball.

Sneed misses a turnaround real close to the rim, they miss another 3.

Heh. Alloway misses a mid-range jumper, they rush a 3 again, and miss. If we were behind this would be really embarrassing, but since we're ahead, we're going to call it a great job running out the clock and playing defense.

There we go, Forte comes up with the shot that ices it(although a 6 point lead the way we'd been scoring it felt over already).

They break their long scoreless streak as well but its way too late.

#15 Florida State 62
Boston College 55

They are led with 15 from Sarchet and 11 from Bowden, but its defense(and poor shooting) that rules the day. Hart, after putting up 27 on us the first game, only scores 7, going 1-9 from 3. They shoot 20-56 as a team. We aren't a whole lot better, 22-55 from the field, only getting 1 point from the line in the 2nd half after 12 in the first.

Forte: 8 points
Alloway: 3 points
Barrett: 6 points
Sneed: 14 points/12 boards
McCants: 12 points/12 boards

Sanders: 8 points/9 boards

With all those missed shots there were lots of rebounds to be had.
