2003 Season, Week 14
San Diego (6-6) at Detroit (2-10) (+5)

A young Drew Brees leads the Chargers offense after being behind Doug Flute most of the 2002 season. Brees is completing 67% of his passes with a QB rating of 82 this season, he has missed 3 games with an elbow injury. The league's best player is LaDainian Tomlinson, he has 1,262 yards rushing so far this season. He also has 71 receptions for 614 yards, amazingly combined he only has 4 touchdowns. Their defense is anchored by NT Jamal Williams, LB Donnie Edwards, and S Rodney Harrison. Harrison is out with a strained calf muscle. They also have Juinor Seau but he may not play either.

Before the game we tell Mike Anderson he is going to get the majority of the carries.

1st Quarter

Our defense stops them on 3 plays for their first 3 drives of the game but we haven't done anything either. Until our 4th drive, we finally make some progress but have to punt from their 42. The Chargers finally get their first 1st down of the game on a 12-yard run by Tomlinson but they have to punt again to end the quarter.

Detroit 0, San Diego 0

2nd Quarter

We punt the ball right back to them before Edwards and Rogers combine to sack Brees and he fumbles! Its recovered by Porcher at their 29! Three plays later Anderson runs it in from 10 yards out. Our defense forces another 3 and out, then Batch hits Ricks for 40 yards setting up the same connection on a 6-yard touchdown. Later in the quarter Batch fumbles and they recover at our 23 setting up a 33-yard Seth Marler field goal. We get the ball with 0:22 left in the half and Anderson breaks free for a 31-yard gain which sets up a Hanson field goal from 31 yards as time expires.

Detroit 17, San Diego 3

3rd Quarter

To start the half we get a perfectly executed drive that ends in a 4-yard touchdown run by Anderson. The Chargers finally respond and score on a 17-yard pass from Brees to Parker. We have a nice 9 play drive that does nothing but eat up 4 minutes of the game clock to end the quarter.

Detroit 24, San Diego 10

4th Quarter

Early in the 4th a 27-yard pass from Batch to Pathon sets up a 40-yard field goal for Hanson but he misses wide right. However, on the next play Brian Williams intercepts Brees and returns it 39 yards to their 26. We fail to take advantage as Anderson fumbles at their 4. Our defense holds strong and gets us the ball back in good field position. We get a 31-yard field goal by Hanson to ice the game.

Detroit 27, San Diego 10

A shocking win! Our running game flourished behind Anderson, he had 127 yards on 30 carries with 2 touchdowns. Luckily his fumble didn't cost us. Batch was effective, going 18 of 24 for 188 yards with a touchdown. Our defense shut down LT and their offense. Tomlinson had just 33 yards rushing as we held them to just 163 yards of total offense.

Kevin Williams (sprained knee) and Jerome Pathon (sprained knee) are questionable for next week's game.
