I see the way that Henry is reading Jackal's response. For me, and this is more gut than anything, it does read mildly odd the discussion about the item. I agree, giving an item could be used to build trust, but there was something about immediately suspecting the person that passed you something by name that struck me as odd. Again, a vibe thing.
