So with the conferences glacially expanding, what does this do for playoffs? It looks like the big 4/5 is inevitable (PAC, B10, SEC, BigEast/ACC, maybe a best of the best from the rest), so that's 64-80 strong teams. That seems to mean that there's no chance that anyone outside of those schools gets into any type of 4 or 8 team tournament. So since the main reason people seemed to want a playoff is to get the underdogs a shot, how does that gel with the way things are moving?
Also, everyone was talking about how unwieldy the 16 team Big East was in basketball, as it was really each team just killing off every other team, and that it was likely to fold. Is 4 or 5 of the same setups really the answer?
