1999 Rams vs. 1976 Cardinals

One of the favorites to advance from this group faces one of the major underdogs of the tournament in a battle of St. Louis. Can the Cardinals manage a win in the group stage? Advancement would be a major upset. We go to The Kingdome for the action.


1st quarter

**- The Cardinals start the game at their own 32 after the opening kickoff.

- Metcalf gains 1. 3rd and 6 at the 36.
- Draw play to Metcalf for 3. 4th and 3 at the 39.

- Hart hits Mel Gray across mifield and down at the Rams 40 for 17 yards. 1st down at the 40.

- Otis picks up 1 yard. 3rd ansd 10 at the 40.
- Hart hits Jones out of the backfield for 8. 4th and 2 at the 32.

**- The Rams start at their own 30 after the kickoff.
- Draw play to Robert Holcombe for 4. 2nd and 6 at the 34.
- Marshall Faulk loses 1 yard. 3rd and 7 at the 33.
- Warner back, looking, fires over the middle. Picked off by Ray White and he is down at the Rams 39.

- Faulk gets the ball, he bounces to the outside, around the corner. HE makes one miss, spins away from another and then outraces everyone to the corner of the endzone, touchdown. The extra point is good and the Rams take a 7-3 lead.

**- The Cardinals start from their 39 after the kickoff.
- Play action fake, Hart drops back, the safety bit on the play action. Hart throws a pass over the top to Gray and hits him in stride past the secondary and he is gone, all the way for a 61 yard touchdown. The extra point is good and the Cardinals regain the lead 10-7.

**- The Rams start at their 22 after the kickoff.
- Holcombe picks up 1 yard. 2nd and 9 at the 23.
- Incomplete pass. 3rd and 9 at the 23.
- Warner hits Ricky Proehl for 13. 1st down at the 36.
- Warner hits Holt in stride, he is across midfield and down at the Cardinals 43. 1st down at the 43.
