2009 Chargers vs 1967 Raiders

The Chargers look like the underdog in this one, even though theyare playing a Raiders team we have to remember that once upon a time the Raiders played something that was actually NFL calliber football. We go to Giants Stadium to watch the clash.


1st quarter

**- The Chargers start the game from their 31 after the opening kickoff.
- LaDainian Tomlinson picks up 4 yards. A flag is down. Holding on the offense. 1st and 20 at the 21.
- Tomlinson pick up 1 yard. 2nd and 19 at the 22.
- Rivers hits Malcolm Floyd for 12 yards. 3rd and 7 at the 34.
- Rivers hits Antonio Gates over the middle, he is across the 40 and brought down close to the first down. They measure and he just has it. 1st down at the 41.
- Incomplete pass from Rivers. 2nd and 10 at the 41.
- Play action, Rivers back, lofts one up top to Legedu Naanee who has gotten beyond the defense as the safety bit on the play action. Complete in stride, inside the 30, the 20, 10, touchdown. The extra point is blocked and the Chargers lead 6-0.

**- The Raiders start from their own 24 after the kickoff.
- Hewritt Dixon up the middle for 1 yard. 2nd and 9 at the 25.
- Incomplete pass. 3rd and 9 at the 25.
- Lamonica drops back, fires over the middle to Rod Sherman, complete across the 40 and down at the 43 for an 18 yard gain. 1st down at the 43.
- Dixon picks up 1 yard. Incidental facemask added on for an additional 5 yards. 1st and 4 at the 49.
- Daniels gains 1 yard. 2nd and 3 at the 50.
- Dixon is dropped for a 2 yard loss. 3rd and 5 at the 48.
- Lamonica hits Bill Miller across midfield for a 9 yard gain. 1st down at the 43.
- Lamonica back, fires to Fred Biletnikoff and hits him in stride across the 30, heads to the sideline, across the 20 and down at the 18 for a 25 yard gain. 1st down at the 18.
- Lamonica back, in trouble, gets away and scrambles for 2 yards. 2nd and 8 at the 16.
- Daniels gets the ball off tackle left. He has a hole, is across the 10, stiff arms a defender to the ground, is inside the 5, is hit but carries the defender into the endzone. Touchown. They make the extra point and the Raiders take a 7-6 lead.

**- The Chargers start at their own 24 after the kickoff.
- Tomlinson is stopped for no gain. 2nd and 10 at the 24.
- Draw play to Tomlinson, catches the defense off guard. He is across the 30, across the 40 and down at the 41 for 17 yards. 1st down at the 41.
- Mike Tolbert picks up 1 yard. 2nd and 9 at the 42.
- Rivers back, fires over the middle to Gates in Raiders terriroty, complete inside the 40 and down at the 38 for 20 yards. 1st down at the 38.
- Rivers hits Tomlinson out of the backfield for 7 yards. 2nd and 3 at the 31.
- Tomlinson picks up 1 yard. 3rd and 2 at the 30.
- Rivers hits Vincent Jackson on a short pass and he is dropped immediately, close to a first down. They measure. He got it. 1st down at the 28.
- Tomlinson for no gain. 2nd and 10 at the 28.
- Draw play to Darren Sproles for 4 yards. 3rd and 6 at the 24.
- Rivers back, firing over the middle, picked off by Dave Grason and he is down at the 18.

**- The Raiders start from their 18 after the interception.
- The quarter ends after one play with a 2nd and 9.

**- The Raiders start the quarter 2nd and 9 at their 19.
- They are unable to convert and punt the ball away.

**- The Chargers start at their own 35 after the punt.
- They manage one first down and punt the ball away from just across midfield.

**- The Raiders start at their own 26 after the punt.
- End around to Warrne Wells and he picks up 4 yards. 2nd and 6 at the 30.
- Lamonica hits Daniels for 7 yards. 1st down at the 37.
- Daniels straight ahead, he has a hole and makes his own room as he sheds two tacklers and is across midfield and down at the Chargers 48 after a 15 yard gain. 1st down at the 48.
- Pete Banaszak picks up 2 yards. 2nd and 8 at the 46.
- Dixon off left tackle, has running room. He is across the 40 and down at the 31 for a 15 yard gain. 1st down at the 31.
- Daniels up the middle for 1 yard. 2nd and 9 at the 30.
- Lamonica hits Dixon for 9 yards and he has the first down. 1st down at the 21.
- Daniels picks up 11 yards up the middle, an incidental facemask is added to the end of the run. 1st and goal at the 5.
- Dixon up the middle and is wrestled down jus shy of the endzone at the 1. 2nd and goal at the 1.
- Lamonica back, looking, starts to run, gets the ball off just as he is drilled near the line of scrimmage but it is incomplete. A flag is down. They say he was across the line when hethrew it, why didn't he just dive for the endzone? 3rd and goal at the 6.
- Draw play to Dixon but they are read for it and he gains just 1 yard. 4th and goal from the 5.
- Blanda attempts a 22 yard field goal. It's good. The Raiders lead 10-6.

**- The Chargers start at their own 26 after the kickoff.
- Rivers hits Jackson for 7 yards. 2nd and 3 at the 33.
- Incomplete pass. 3rd and 3 at the 33.
- Tomlinson up the middle, hits the hole quickly and is across the 40 and down at the 46 for a 13 yard gain. 1st down at the 46. Two minute warning.
- Rivers to Floyd for 12 yards, into Raiders territory. 1st down at the 42. Timeout.
- Incomplete pass. 2nd and 10 at the 42.
- Rivers back, fires, he hits Gates over the middle down field, he is across the 30, inside the 20, the 10 and down at the 9 for a 33 yard gain. 1st and goal at the 9.
- Tomlinson hit and dropped for a 1 yard loss. 2nd and goal at the 10.
- Incomplete pass. 3rd and goal at the 10.
- Rivers back, under pressure, fires into the endzone to Gates but out of his reach. 4th and goal at the 10.

- Rivers back, fires to Tobert in Raiders territory, he makes a move, tries to get to the sideline and is hit and the ball is out. The Raiders recover at their 41.

**- The Raiders start at their 41 afterthe fumble recovery with 11 seconds left.
- Two incomplete passes later and the half is over.

**- The Raiders start the second half from their 21.
- Daniels picks up 6 yards. 2nd and 4 at the 27.
- Lamoica to Biletnikoff for 9 yards. 1st down at the 36.
- Dixon picks up 1 yard. 2nd and 9 at the 37.
- Lamonica hits Daniels for 8 yards. 3rd and 1 at the 45.
- Daniels gets the carry, he is across the line and has the first down as he picks up 2 yards. 1st down at the 47.

**- The Chargers start at the Raiders 38 after the interception.
- Sproles around the left side and hs room as he picks up 15 yards. 1st down at the 23.
- Tomlinson picks up 2 yards. 2nd and 8 at the 21.
- Tolbert picks up 6 yards. 3rd and 2 at the 15.
- Draw play to Sprole but the play is blown up and he loses 4 yards. 4th and 6 at the 19.

**- The Chargers start at their 43 after the interception with 1:54 left in the game.
- Handoff to Jacob Hester who loses the ball on the exchange. The Raiders recover at the Chargers 40. What a turn of events.

**- The Raiders start at the Chargers 40 with 1:49 left after the fumble recovery.
- Lamonica hits Daniels for 6 yards, out of bounds. 2nd and 4 at the 34.
- Lamonica hits Cannon for 10 yards. 1st down at the 24.
- Draw play to Dixon, he is across the 20 and down at the 13. 1st down at the 13.
- Incomplete pass. 2nd and 10 at the 13.
- Daniels picks up 1 yard, out of bounds. 3rd and 9 at the 12.
- Lamonica back, looks to the endzone to Cannon, incomplete. 4th and 9 at the 12.

**- The Raiders start at their own 42 after the punt with 3 seconds left in the game.
- Lamonica back, waits for his receivers to get downfield, heaves one as far as he can towards the mass of humanity in the endzone, it is batted around but falls to the gound incomplete and we head to overtime.

- Lamonica hits Dixon for a short 6 yard gain. 2nd and 4 at the 26.
- Lamonica fires over the middle, complete to Cannon for 19 yards. 1st down at the 45.
- Lamonica back, under heavy pressure, tucks the ball and scrambles, he is across midfield and down at the Chargers 40. 1st down at the 40.
- Play acton pass, Lamonica lofts one deep to Dixon, complete and down at the 13 for a 27 yard gain. 1st down at the 13.
- Daniels get the ball up the middle, nowwhere to go, he bounces to the outside, drops one defender with a stiffarm, is inside the 10, the 5, hit, bobbles the ball but holds on and is into the endzone, touchdown. The Raiders win 29-23.
