We got one with an icemaker. Most places (Sears, Home Depot) sell a kit with all the necessities to make the connection.
2 options: run a line to the sink, or, drill through the floor to connect to a line in the basement (assuming your kitchen isn't in some odd location I guess).
Our sink is about 6 feet or so from where the fridge went. I wasn't real keen on the idea of drilling through the floor, not knowing what I might hit along the way.
The kit includes a saddle valve (I think that's the right term) and the copper tubing, along with the compression valves and other junk you need inside the line connecting to the fridge. Took me total time maybe an hour.
On a scalre of 1-10, 1 being I can't tie my shoes, 10 being my driver's license reads Bob Vila....I'm a 6 or so on the fix-it meter.
The only downsides I've found - the filters are sort of expensive. They recommend changing them every 3 months, but it's not like the water turns black. We've gone as long as 6 months, maybe more, without changing them without much noticeable difference.
And, if you have kids, and they learn to play with it, you find puddles on the floor alot.

Thanks for the info. Our sink is across the kitchen from our fridge, so I think it will be drilling a hole into the floor and connecting to a pipe in the basement.
On your fix-it meter scale, I am about 1.5 or 2, at best. My mind just doesn't work that way. So, I will be calling a plumber to handle the situation.
