So the article concludes that they are keeping the conference name for identity purposes. Like this conference has been around for so long. Do people really care about the conference name that much? I grew up a Big 8 fan for like 15 years and really could care less that it is now called the Big 12. Would the Big 10 and the Big 12 switching names really be that huge of a deal? I think fans of the Pac-8 or the SWC or the even the new Pac-12 next year really could care less. It is so stupid to explain to a non sports fan why the big 12 and big 10 have the exact opposite number of teams.
