That question pre-supposes that you are required to vote for someone simply because they are married to one of your mom's friends. I don't think she'd have the right to be angry if you told her you voted for the other person, let alone that you didn't vote at all.
But yeah, if all you're talking about is keeping the peace, perhaps not bringing it up would be the best option.
