I'm (perhaps obviously) thinking of how quickly Michael Jackson (and others before him) returned to some degree of hero status, after his death. Certainly that didn't hold true for everybody or even most people's opinion, but the public/media reaction presented was overwhelmingly positive, and glossed over the scandals almost entirely, and as a culture we seem to forgive/forget a lot of shameful crap upon someone's death. I assume the reaction to Joe's passing will be similar.
