It's largely suggestive sale I think. The question, increasingly for a number of years now, is not
where you're going to mail X but
if you're going to mail X.
There's other stuff in there of course, including hyping deadlines & early shipping in order to avoid losing the sales opportunity for people who think "it's already too late" or "we'll just give it to them when we see them in February" but I think a lot of what isn't "we also do 1/2/3 day delivery" is mostly trying to prompt you to send something at all rather than to influence whether you send it through the postal service.
