Are there third cousins?

Example: My son, Sam, has a kid in his preschool class, Tyler.

My cousin (his mom is my dad's sister) is Tyler's dad.

So Me to Tyler: 2nd cousins
Tyler's dad to Sam: 2nd cousins

Sam to Tyler: 3rd cousins? Or is this the old "once removed", because I never understood that.
