I played through 15 games of it. The board and other game components get modified both during and after games. It was fantastic, we are thinking about buying another game and starting over from scratch. The rules complexity will also increase somewhat as the game progresses.
I would recommend that you find a regular group to play with. It doesn't work as well if you are not consistently playing with the same group. My group had a core group of 5, and we played 4 or 5 player games with this group for the most part.
