I have really mixed feelings about the Phillies right now. On one hand, this is the team I've spent the past 30+ years rooting for. OTOH, I became a fan mainly because of Steve Carlton (to tie in the Jamie Moyer talk) and don't have any other connections to the team or city, and I've become increasingly annoyed by the way they've run the team over the past number of years. It's just about 180 degrees from everything I believe to be true about baseball. So in some ways, I'm taking a perverse pleasure in seeing them suck. I've started watching the Tigers (my hometown) and Rays (model franchise and fun team to watch) before I'll turn on a Phillies game.

In other words... I now know at least part of what it's like to be a Royals fan (minus the money to make mistakes). In fact, I think Joe Poz once wrote a blog about how bad it sucked to root for a team that was run in a completely opposite way to what you believe. That's where I am right now, mentally, with the Phillies. Enjoy Ryan Howard, Rueben Amaro. The worst part is he probably thinks the contract is OK, but you just can't predict injuries.
