My biggest problem with Catan is that inevitably someone falls behind early and gets blocked to a point where there is no hope of coming back. Unfortunately they have to play out the rest of the game, usually totally disinterested, and it's not really a fast game. I don't like games where someone at the table is basically bored for 1-2 hours.
