The 1912 season saw owners abandon the lively ball of 1911 and hitting regressed accordingly, while pitching once again ascended to a position of dominance, led by Mike O'Rourke, who shattered his season record for strikeouts. 'Irish Fire' is just 27, but has already surpassed 2500 K's in his career. The potent Milwaukee trio of Hutt, Gale and the always flambouyant Jestor led the Brewers to the NL pennant, while each appearing in the All-Star game. A Championship was not in the cards however as they fell to the Boston Pilgrims 4 games to 3. The Dawkins brothers each collected Pennants on their respective teams (Chatham and Buffalo) even though Joe spent the year on the reserve squad, which did not stop him from signing a deal with the PCL nine in Sacramento, being joined in the PCL by Lester Wood, who parlayed a fine season into the 3 year deal with the Salt Lake Bees.
