1949 Off Season
Because of our debt, Irvin and Paige are nonnegotiable and become free agents. We have to let our SS, Wally Flager walk as well. Billy Pierce gets $75,000 in arbitration but we most assuredly will have to trade him.
We send Billy Pierce to the Cubs for a decent 20 year old pitching prospect named Johnny Kippstein and enough cash to get us out of debt. We use that money to bring Irvin back in the fold with a 5 year deal at $75K per.
This gives us a two year window with very few contracts that'll need to be renewed. We'll have to deal with arbitrations but who cares, I want more titles.
To that end we sign Phil Rizzuto to a 5 year deal at $10K per season. We make a trade to add a couple of young pitchers to our staff, Curt Simmons who will start and Marv Rotblatt in the pen.
We're almost $200,000 over budget but so what. We have two more years before the shit hits the fans.
