How hard is it to upgrade the video card- they seem pretty cheap online, I did it years and years ago but not sure I'd know how to do that anymore. (It's an acer desktop)

Right now you don't have a video card but are using the integrated graphics on your CPU. You'll need a free PCI express port which likely won't be an issue, but the stumbling block you may run into is power supply. Even the lowest end of Tom's Hardware's Best Entry Level Graphics For the Money requires a 400W PSU. If you need an upgrade a new PSU might run at least $50 or so. You could run into some trouble there as some manufacturers use proprietary designs for PSU where a standard model may not easily fit in the case, though I have no idea if Acer does this.
