My opinion is whatever you need to have the motivation to get the run in sounds like a good idea to me. I have a treadmill and actually prefer to run in bad weather than the treadmill, but my wife is the opposite and likes the treadmill over huge wind/rain/cold.

The treadmill that I have is a fairly affordable one, that also folds up to not take up too much room when not being used, but I know several others on here (like FM) have more expensive ones that have some really nice features.
