1977 Spring Valley League Championship Series
Lambertville Tigers (33-9) Vs Newtown Blues (24-18)

A lot of stories coming out of game 1 of the championship series played in Newtown as the Blues played in their first Spring Valley League championship series. Tigers ace Glen Tyrer matched up against Blues starter Tony Russell.

The Blues jumped out to a 1-0 lead before we started pouring it on against the overmatched Russell. After scoring twice in the 2nd and 3rd innings we added four runs in the 5th and took an 8-2 lead. Glen Tyrer would go 6 innings and allow 3 runs, not being particularly sharp, but sharp enough. Grant Bingham allowed a 3 run homer to Tito Ramirez in the 7th inning to get the Blues to within 3 runs but that was as close as they got as we closed it out with a 10-6 win in a wild game. Nate Ward had 4 hits, Dusty Shaver and Freddy Thornhill each homered with Shaver driving in 4 runs. The series shifts to Lambertville with the Tigers up 1-0. Unfortunately for Lambertville, star 2B Nate Ward hurt his knee and will miss the rest of the series. It's not a serious injury but he can't play and that could be a big blow to Lambertvilles title hopes.

Shawn Stryska faced off against Tony Boorman in game two and even without Nate Ward, the Tigers offense was sparked by the top of the order as Jamie Gault led off and collected 3 hits, 2 runs and an RBI, while SS Shane Ellis knocked in 2 runs. Meanwhile Stryska threw 7 dominant innings, leaving with a 3-1 lead. Jeremy Leigh and Clinton Withey finished out the game as the Tigers won game 2 and clinched their 3rd straight Spring Valley League title.
