OTOH, putting it that way - "the best offensive player in the game only gets 60% of the way to first base every time they get up to the plate" - ignores that even the best player in the game is unlikely to hit much better than .330 or .340, except in extreme situations. Trout's .311 BA with a .600 SLG means that every time he hits safely, on average he's already in scoring position.
