When I did it it was cold turkey, to me it really did feel like a full on addiction, more to the sugar than the caffeine I think, or maybe the combination of both. It was very all or nothing with me. I'd cut back a few times but that never worked and I'd cut them out for weeks or even months at a time but then if I had a single taste I was back on them full time.
But I know most people don't recommend that and recommend scaling back or weaning off or whatever. I dunno, I don't even have any reason why it worked this time (I think I'm up over 2 full years w/o soda now?) and it didn't so many other times. Its absurdly difficult.
