Old North Cup

Wake Forest Cougars vs Asheville Attack

Our first match with any meaning!

GK: Gyan
D: Campbell/Pickering/Varela/Jackson
DM: Williams
MC: Tapia/Shakespeare
AM: Rose/Cooper
ST: Navarro

A pretty familiar lineup to last year. Joe Jackson gets the start at DR, youth player Ashley Varela gets the start at DC, mainly for fitness reasons. Its going to be a bit confusing, we now have an Ashley Varela at DC and a Bob Varela at DR, if the young kid at DC is decent I'm sure both will be on the field together at points.

12': We hold possession for quite a long time, Shakespeare hits Rose in the area for a clear cut chance but he puts his shot wide.

14': Williams ahead to Rose, Rose with a short run down the left side and a cross into the area, Navarro volleys it in! 1-0

33': They have a corner, its a short lob into the near side of the box, they get a shot off it but its contested well and its off target.

HALF: Joe Jackson and Ronnie Navarro both picked up minor injuries in the first half. I'm going to sub Navarro out. Roth is in. We are really dominating this one, just need to avoid allowing a stupid goal.

51': Indirect free kick 35 yards out, Tapia taps it to Shakespeare, into the area for Cooper, he crosses to Roth, Roth with a godawful header that is going to go well wide... but a defender runs into it and redirects it into the net, own goal! 2-0

57': Rose with a run down the left after some midfield possession, a cross to about 8 yards from goal, Roth heads it into the right side of the net! 3-0

64': Campbell wins the ball in defense and we start to push forward, Cooper ends up with a run down the right side, he fires a low cross to the other side of the penalty area, Rose is there and shoots... basically at the keeper's feet, he tries to get down to get it but can't, its in! 4-0

That's it! Little action in the final 25 minutes.

Wake Forest 4 : 0 Asheville

Injury Update

Ronnie Navarro turned his ankle in the first half today, and he's going to miss 6-7 weeks as a result. Damn!

DR Joe Jackson bruised a rib in the first half today, he stayed in, but he's going to miss about 2 weeks.
