He's been turning down interviews for a couple of years. He's been one of the more sought-after candidates, but his name hasn't been out there because he doesn't interview. He was more or less the Saints GM this year and has been running a large part of the team for a couple years.
Very interesting that he decided to take the bears job out of the blue.
