They handled it differently yesterday than they did today. There were two ways to better handle it by the umpires.
1. Issue a pre-game warning again, warning them to keep it clear or face immediate ejection.
2. Let Cain walk down to first base and issue no warning. The home plate umpire actually was going to do exactly that, but then crew chief Jim Joyce decided to interject himself. You could clearly see the home plate umpire saying he didn't want to issue a warning, but Joyce overruled him in the ensuing conversation.

According to the replay of Ventura's disgusting and potentially deadly bean ball of fire and spikes, there were no warnings issued.
As someone who saw Matt Holliday probably ruin Suctaro's career with a slide, I too wish he would get hit every time he came to bat. But after the first hit by pitch, it seemed the players moved on, so should I.
