I don't think the readers would stop if I reworked the conference setups, so I'm leaning towards doing it anyway, and capping out the conferences at say, 12 teams each. Maybe even start a new conference, and dump the independents altogether in terms of anyone being such.
So many choices to make!

Personally, I hate the new, mega-conferences. I don't follow college basketball nearly as closely as I once did, and that is a big reason why. I miss the days when I could name every school in the most prestigious conferences, and a lot of the others, too.
I'd vote for a realignment into smaller, more "old school" conferences. Even if they're not the same as they were 20 years ago, they'd still have more of that feel.
