Mary Sue is somewhat misogynistic though, as, while there has been attempts to do a male "Gary Stu" or "Marty Stu" it doesn't come up nearly as much - even though the male character who is basically flawless and wish fulfillment is far more common (Heck, in the Star Trek universe you have both James Kirk and Wesley Crusher who fit the role).
