That sounds like the foundation for a whiskey sour. There is a big variance in bourbon. Jack and Makers Mark are awful to my taste. Elijah Craig, Four Roses, and Traverse city are all sipable. For me bourbon shines most when it's mixed with something else to play off and play up the flavors.
