Thanks. I checked and my modem is "free" or at least part of the monthly $50. I assume they will swap out a new router if I upgrade to the 1,000 Mbps (and I'll do a quick speedtest on it).

FWIW we've had minimal issues with AT&T. The once in a while modem reboot for whatever reason, lawn guy cut the cable and it took 2-3 days for the repairs, speed seems pretty good, and most importantly, no strange fluctuations in our monthly bill ... $50 is $50.
