Firing a coach is almost always shuffling deck chairs during that current season. It's more of a way for the owner to let the fans know that he shares their frustration, and so y'all keep coming to the games, and we will be ready to go with an awesome new coach this offseason.
This seems like the rare case where firing a coach has tangible positive benefits during that season.
