I think it depends. Always relative to what happens elsewhere. I also think it matters how you play against teams that aren't good - i.e. are you squeaking by or are you impressive every week, etc.
Always have to balance it against what other teams are doing though. Obviously Alabama's loss means it's possible only one SEC team gets into the playoff, and that means another spot possibly for someone else like Cincinnati. If Oklahoma had lost that would be another opening.
