I think there's a difference between him lighting it and dragging Obi Wan into it as payback for what he did on Mustafar and it being lit in front of Vader to prevent him from crossing. I get frustration with the troopers not even trying to get around it or anything, but Vader freezing up didn't hit me as being odd or out of character.
