Today, ground was broken for the new home of Villanova Wildcats basketball.
Wawa Arena will be a state-of-the-art, 12,500 seat arena. It's designed to provide the best possible atmosphere for Wildcats games. The arena will be built on a tract of land adjacent to campus, close enough for students to walk there and convenient for fans who are traveling to campus to watch their team.
The name sponsor is a popular chain of convenience stores, founded and headquartered in metropolitan Philadelphia.
Wawa Arena should be ready for the opening game of the 2036/37 season. It will replace the old Finneran Pavilion, which is now almost 50 years old, and will end the practice of playing home games at the Wells Fargo Center.
Note: This plot line has been inspired by a proposal for a new arena presented on a Villanova basketball fan site by a poster called "NovaDave" some time ago. I ran across it last night, and thought I would incorporate it into the story.
