So, figured I'd update.
Dream job, never happened. Got ghosted since December and after some digging it appears someone else was hired for the job in mid-November, even though in early December the CEO told me directly there was still a freeze. So not sure what's up with that and this job is still active on the site, but someone is doing the job right now so ...
I decided to accept a different job. Weirdly, it's the contract job I talked about in my first post, except it's through a partner on the contract. I didn't even know until I got most of the way through the first interview. Same pay, but no 3 month contract period, W2 from the start. So I guess it worked out.
In the interim I've just been doing s temp Document Review job. It started out promising and was supposed to be up to a year, so I wasn't panicking in my search as much, but over the last few weeks they've cut 2/3 of the temp staff and I'd be shocked if the assignment lasts through the end of the month.
What have I learned? I still hate talking about myself. As a result it's hard for me to not come off as though I'm a legacy band just playing the hits. I ended up turning down 3 offers overall, 1 never materialized, and then accepted this one. But I don't think I can count the number of straight rejections, rejections after screenings, rejections after interviews, or just straight ghosting at some point.
That being said, I still have a few interviews lined up until I actually start the new job. No point canceling them just in case one ends up being a unicorn or if this one collapsed for some reason (it's tangential to the government, so...). I'll probably still monitor job boards and shoot for the moon on a job here or there, but I have to say I'd prefer to not job hunt anymore.
