That is the other side to this. Both my parents and my wife's parents are, at this stage, too old to provide any kind of childcare coverage. Our 13 year old can spend time with them and be fine, but our 5 year old has too much energy and not quite self sufficient enough to be alone with them. Also, my wife spend a ton of time "parenting" her parents. She spends at least one day a week driving and hour each way to be with them and then spends a lot of time at home taking care of their various medical issues. It's a part-time job on top of raising our kids and having our own pretty high-demand jobs.

It's a lot.
