Yeah, it's bottom of the barrel work. The one upside with taking the gig in the past was you could parlay it into another federal job down the line. But those other federal jobs require a bachelors degree which they aren't requiring for ICE. Plus with the massive increase in hiring, you'll be up against a lot more competition if you want to move up.
Most police departments will offer better pay, benefits, and job security. Plus you don't have to deal with a bullshit polygraph (they'll probably ditch this). Heck, I think just enlisting (even in the reserves) is a better option long term since they'll pay for your degree and you won't be seen as such a pariah in the job market.
It's a good gig if you don't have any skills or education and can't pass the physicals for military or police. But there is a reason they are begging people to join.
