I did the regular alt+print screen and then pasted into Photoshop (even MS Paint will work for this though). Then I selected the area I wanted to show and cropped the image. Finally I just saved it as a low-medium quality jpg (to lower the file size). I find I can get the file down to around 10k which should be managable for most people.
I'm not sure if MS Paint has a "crop" option or not. If it doesn't you can just select the area you want to show and choose "copy to" from the edit menu. This lets you save a bitmap of just that area to your harddrive which you would then need to open and convert to jpeg. Hope this helps.
