Merchantmen Add Two Safeties And Mentor Defensive End
To address the gap at safety, the Maassluis Merchantmen have signed Wiley McGhee and Richard Muller as free agents. McGhee played for Asheville Axemen, where he started 16 games in which he made 77 tackles, 2 interceptions and defended 12 passes. McGhee should fill the gap at strong safety created by the trade of Randall Smith. Muller was a backup at Leesburg Generals, the team now named Miami Sharks, where he made 24 tackles, 1 interception and defended 6 passes in 16 games. The Merchantmen also added defesive end Albert Bernardo to the roster. Bernardo is concidered a mentor for defensive ends and should be a great teacher for the four other ends playing in Maassluis. Bernardo played for Springfield Isotopes in 2005 in 16 games, starting 5 of those, and made 18 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Bernardo's highlight of the season was a fumble he recovered for a touchdown in a 20-10 victory at Leesburg.
