Martin Dihigo had 2 base hits and Bullet Joe Rogan tossed a shutout at Black
Diamond Pk where the Negro League I Ones beat the Left Outs Leftovers by the
score of 4 to 0.
Rogan(1-1) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He was stingy on the
mound, allowing just 4 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings improving his ERA from
11.12 to 4.30. Neither team managed to score after the 4th inning.
Steve Carlton(1-1) suffered the loss. He pitched 6 innings and surrendered 6
hits and 1 walk.
AL PRE WWII AT JAPANESE LEAGUE

Lefty Grove was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game as the AL Pre WWII ballclub defeated the Japanese League HOF
Players by a score of 3 to 2 at Nintendo Field.
Grove(1-1) put on a good performance. He allowed only 4 hits and 4 walks in 9
innings reducing his ERA from 7.71 to 3.95. AL Pre WWII managed 10 in their
victory.
Kazuhisa Inao(0-2) took the loss. He was knocked around by AL Pre WWII,
allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings.
LATE 20TH AT AL POST WWII

The red-hot Late 20th Modern Stars tallied 4 runs in the 2nd inning and had
very little trouble at Yawnef Park downing the AL Post WWII team. The score
was 8 to 3.
Randy Johnson(2-0) gave Late 20th a solid outing. He allowed 9 hits and no
walks in 7 innings. Johnson racked up 8 strikeouts. Late 20th finished with
12 hits while AL Post WWII ended up with 9.
Nolan Ryan(0-2) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 6 runs and 7 hits in 7
innings. Late 20th extended their winning streak to 7 games. Joe Torre was
very irritated after the contest. 'Just our luck to run into a team that's
playing like a juggernaut right now. I have to congratulate Bobby Cox on his
team's recent performance. A very impressive run.'

Joe McGinnity went the distance at Deadball Park where the Dead Ball Era
Ghosts beat the Caribbean Estrellas 4 to 3.
McGinnity(1-0) earned his pay with a solid performance for McGinnity. He went
9 innings surrendering 4 hits and 6 walks. After the 4th inning, neither
team was able to score.
Luis Tiant Sr.(0-2) was given the loss. He gave up 4 runs and 5 hits in 4
innings.

Chuck Klein smashed 2 homeruns as the NL Pre WWII club beat the NL Post WWII
ballclub by a score of 7 to 5.
Klein provided much of the offense. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the
6th inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 2nd of the season) in
the 8th inning and hit a single in the 9th inning. NL Post WWII threatened
in the 9th but NL Pre WWII was able to put down the rally.
Carl Hubbell(2-0) went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 5 runs for the win. Hubbell
got relief help from Dizzy Dean who gained credit for his 1st save. The
losing pitcher was Gaylord Perry(0-1). He served up 3 gopher balls in 6
innings.
'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Tommy Lasorda said. 'We did
what we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What can you say?'
TURN OF CENTURY AT NEGRO LEAGUE II

Sam Bankhead had 2 base hits and 3 RBI and Cannonball Redding completed the
game without help from the bullpen as the Negro League II Twos defeated the
Turn of Century Centurions 9 to 2 at Shadowball Stadium.
Redding(1-1) pitched well for Negro League II in their victory. He
surrendered 8 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Negro League II banged out 14
on the afternoon.
Cy Young(1-1) was the loser. He allowed Negro League II 5 runs in 3 and 1/3
innings of work.
OLD TIMERS AT FOFC

Rob Nielsen pitched 8 strong innings and Persimmon Pflaggstettler had 4 hits
and 2 RBI at FOFC Stadium as the FOFC All Stars beat the Old Timers Ancients
by the count of 2 to 1.
FOFC scored the deciding run in the 8th inning. Barrett Blade slapped a
base-hit. A. J. Tucker came next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. After
another out, Pflaggstettler stepped in and he lashed a single, and an error
was also committed, scoring the run. Old Timers made it exciting in the 9th,
but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
Nielsen(1-0) allowed 1 run in 8 innings, and picked up the victory. Sammy
Knowles recorded the save, his 3rd. Old Hoss Radbourn(1-1) was tagged with
the loss. He gave up 6 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.
Despite losing Frank Selee was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over
this one. Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one
of a dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.'
